Meta introduces user‑controlled AI tool “Your Algorithm” to reshape Facebook feeds
Facebook users gain direct say over what appears in Feed and Reels
Meta unveiled the AI‑driven “Your Algorithm” on Tuesday, a feature that debuted first on Instagram before arriving on Facebook. The new tool lets users shape the content they see in both Feed and Reels by typing their preferences in natural language, moving beyond purely automated suggestions to a more conversational model.
Through an updated three‑dot menu on each post, users can open “Your Algorithm” or mark a post as “Interested” or “Not interested.” These choices are processed instantly, so the platform’s ranking system adjusts recommendations in real time based on the user’s input.
To refine its understanding, Facebook may pose follow‑up questions after a user selects “Interested” or “Not interested.” This dialogue lets users elaborate on what they want to see more or less of, helping the algorithm fine‑tune future suggestions.
The rollout reflects Meta’s broader push to give people greater influence over their social media experience as AI increasingly determines what content surfaces. By allowing direct user feedback, the platform is moving away from the long‑standing, opaque recommendation engines that have dominated social media and aligning more closely with streaming services that let viewers personalize their feeds.
The feature builds on personalization work already present across Meta’s family of apps. Instagram first introduced “Your Algorithm” for Reels in December 2025, then expanded it to Feed and Explore in June. Meanwhile, Threads launched its own counterpart, “Dear Algo,” giving its users a similar avenue to steer recommended content.
