Personal Intelligence expansion brings Gmail‑based suggestions

Google announced on Wednesday that its Chrome browser will receive an enhanced autofill feature powered by artificial intelligence. The new capability pulls suggestions directly from a user’s Gmail inbox, allowing Chrome to propose relevant information when filling online forms.

Among the data types Chrome can surface are flight confirmation numbers, membership IDs, tracking information, order numbers, addresses, phone numbers, and credit card numbers. The browser accesses these details by scanning the user’s email messages.

This update extends Google’s Personal Intelligence platform, which already lets users link their Google Apps to the Gemini AI assistant to retrieve specific details and answer complex queries.

Like Apple’s popular feature that automatically detects verification codes sent via text and presents them above the keyboard, Chrome’s new autofill aims to streamline everyday tasks. The enhancement may also give users an additional incentive to stick with Chrome and stay within Google’s AI ecosystem. Users can choose whether to enable the enhanced autofill in Chrome settings, and Google assures that any sensitive data is encrypted.

The rollout begins for U.S. users on desktop computers and within the iOS and Android versions of the Gemini in Chrome app.
