Google launches Playground, a text-based AI game creation tool

1–2 minutes

On Wednesday, 7th, Google unveiled Playground, an experimental platform that lets users create games using AI-powered text commands, without any programming knowledge. Users can describe their idea, test the result, and request changes to rules, characters, or scenarios.

The games run directly in browsers on smartphones and computers, and can be shared with friends or published in a public gallery. In this initial phase, access is limited to users over 18 in the United States, with creation levels tied to a Google One subscription.

How it works

Users can start from scratch or adapt pre-defined suggestions. They can then request changes to rules, characters, scenarios, and game physics, with immediate visual feedback. Games can remain private, be shared via links, or be added to a public gallery. Selected genres also feature rankings and multiplayer modes.

Advanced games and future integrations

Google plans to integrate Playground with Unity Spark to expand creative possibilities, including 3D experiences. The tool is still in testing, and a global launch date, including Brazil, has not yet been set.
