Five free AI tools to streamline your daily tasks
Tasks that seem insignificant in isolation can quickly become overwhelming when they pile up. Reading multiple pages, organizing scattered information, preparing presentations, or searching for references can take hours before you even begin your main work. Fortunately, some artificial intelligence solutions can now handle much of this work. Many offer free versions with usage limits, making them ideal for those who want to experiment with new methods without committing to a subscription.
1. ChatGPT for file and data analysis
The free version of ChatGPT allows you to upload files, analyze data, and search for up-to-date information online. This simplifies tasks that typically require opening multiple documents, cross-referencing information, and conducting an initial manual analysis. For instance, you can upload a spreadsheet to identify patterns, compare numbers, or highlight relevant data. Text files can also be summarized or reorganized to meet specific needs. However, the free plan has limits on uploads and data analysis.
2. NotebookLM for document study
Google’s NotebookLM transforms a collection of sources into a research environment. You can add PDFs, documents, presentations, web pages, and other materials, then ask questions about the content. The tool can generate summaries, FAQs, timelines, and answer queries with source references. It also offers an audio summary option. For those who need to quickly understand extensive material, the advantage is not having to sift through every page to find specific information.
3. Perplexity for source-based research
Internet research involves more than just finding a result on Google—it requires opening pages, comparing information, and verifying the source of each data point. Perplexity streamlines this process by providing answers with source citations. The free plan offers virtually unlimited basic searches and a limited number of advanced searches, along with some file upload capabilities. This tool is useful for gathering market information, finding data for a report, or compiling references before starting a project.
4. Canva for turning ideas into visual content
Creating a presentation, adapting a design, or preparing an image often takes time, even when the idea is already clear. Canva has integrated AI features to speed up part of this process. The free version provides access to tools like image generation, text creation, and some AI-powered editing features, within a monthly limit. The platform lets you start with a description and continue editing the result directly in Canva. This way, AI handles the first version while you refine the material to achieve the final result.
5. Gemini for advanced research
Gemini offers a Deep Research feature that can conduct multi-stage research and produce a report based on the information found. The tool can use Google Search as a source and, when available, work with uploaded files and other connected sources. The user begins by describing what they need to investigate. Gemini then creates a research plan, gathers information, and organizes the results, which can be reviewed and exported later. Free access has usage limits but already allows you to experiment with this type of task.
