OpenAI Introduces Voice Agentic Features to ChatGPT Mobile App
Enhanced Workflows for Plus and Pro Subscribers
OpenAI disclosed on Wednesday that its mobile platform will now support voice-activated agentic tasks, enabling users to trigger complex workflows such as drafting documents or summarizing emails. Subscribers on the Plus and Pro tiers will be able to open the Work tab on their smartphones and create a document, compose an email, or condense Slack messages. The same users can also build websites, assemble presentations, browse the cloud, and tap into financial tools directly within ChatGPT.
Free and Go Users Gain Plugin Access
Users on the free and Go plans will receive access to a library of plugins and connected applications, expanding the ecosystem of third‑party integrations available on the mobile experience.
Rich Text Output and Seamless Cross‑Device Continuity
The voice interface now delivers richer textual responses, and users can toggle between speaking and typing with a single tap. Conversations can be initiated on a phone and resumed on a desktop without interruption, offering a fluid workflow across devices.
Context of Growing Voice Adoption
The rollout comes at a time when a growing segment of users is relying on voice commands to direct AI assistants for sophisticated tasks. Earlier this year, OpenAI released GPT‑Live, a new conversational model, and subsequently integrated it with the desktop application, allowing voice interaction in the Work and Codex tabs. The mobile launch mirrors those capabilities, bringing voice‑driven creation and coding to the palm of users’ hands.
Competitive Landscape
Rival firm Anthropic recently streamlined the handoff between its mobile and desktop environments and merged its Cowork and Chat interfaces. In contrast, OpenAI continues to maintain distinct spaces for chat and workspace activities, preserving a clear separation between conversational and productivity functions.
