Deezer to launch AI music filter as user demand spikes

Streaming service Deezer announced on Tuesday that a new switch will be added before year‑end, allowing subscribers to block AI‑generated music from search results and playlists. When activated, the filter will also conceal AI‑created albums and any artists linked to them, giving users a cleaner, human‑only listening experience if they choose.

Rising AI content fuels industry‑wide policy shifts

CEO Alexis Lanternier said the move responds to clear demand, noting that a company survey last year found roughly 45 % of Deezer users wanted a way to remove AI tracks from their feeds. Deezer introduced AI‑detection tools in 2023, when AI music accounted for about 10 % of daily uploads. By July, that figure had surged to more than half of all uploads, averaging 90,000 AI tracks per day.

Other platforms are also adjusting their stances. Bandcamp has banned AI tracks outright, while Tidal has stopped paying royalties for them. Spotify has taken a lighter approach, simply flagging AI content more prominently. Variety reported in August that Apple Music plans to label AI tracks by the end of the year, and some listeners are turning to independent tracking tools to spot synthetic music.

With the toggle expected to roll out before the holiday season, Deezer becomes one of the early platforms to let users opt out of AI‑generated music entirely, underscoring a growing industry debate over the role of synthetic tracks in music consumption.
