Nscale’s IPO Puts Wall Street’s Appetite for AI Concentration to the Test
Massive Contracts Tied to Two Key Clients
British neocloud specialist Nscale, which separated from Australian crypto miner Arkon Energy two years ago, has secured more than $103 billion in contracts, according to its IPO prospectus. Roughly 85 percent of that total stems from a $43.8 billion compute supply pact with Microsoft that runs through 2033 and a separate $44.6 billion agreement with AI lab Anthropic.
The Anthropic deal is conditional on Nscale securing financing, and Anthropic retains the right to terminate the arrangement if Nscale fails to meet “stringent” milestones outlined in the filing.
Industry-Wide Concentration Risks Highlighted
A recent Financial Times article citing research from credit hedge fund Sona Asset Management warned that many AI infrastructure firms rely heavily on a handful of customers. For instance, Nscale rival CoreWeave derives 67 percent of its revenue from Microsoft, while data‑center builder Applied Digital gets 67 percent from Oracle and another 30 percent from CoreWeave. Sona cautioned that while such interdependence is not inherently negative, a single setback or strategic shift by a major client can ripple through the entire sector.
IPO Details and Financial Outlook
Nscale intends to list on the New York Stock Exchange with an expected valuation of $35 billion and aims to raise $3 billion through the offering, Bloomberg reports.
For the six months ending June 30, the company posted revenue of $140.6 million, a sharp increase from $10.4 million a year earlier. Net losses widened to $1.02 billion from $369 million in the comparable period.
Financing Milestones and Investor Backing
Earlier this month, Nvidia, a key backer of Nscale, committed $1 billion in convertible debt as part of a broader $3.1 billion financing round. The firm was previously valued at $14.6 billion when it closed a $2 billion Series C round led by Aker ASA and 8090 Industries.
Competitive Landscape
Besides CoreWeave, Nscale competes with Nebius, Lambda, and Crusoe, the latter of which announced last week a $3.9 billion funding round at a $30.9 billion valuation.
Nscale operates data centers in Norway, Portugal, Texas, and West Virginia. Its board features former Meta executives Sheryl Sandberg and Nick Clegg, as well as former OpenAI executive Fidji Simo.
