ChatGPT Gets a Visual Makeover with Intelligent UI Launch
Intelligent UI Brings Interactive Visuals to Conversations
OpenAI is rolling out a new visual interface called Intelligent UI alongside the GPT‑6 model. Starting Wednesday, the update will embed a substantial amount of graphics directly into user chats, aiming to make complex topics easier to understand.
According to OpenAI, many of the graphics will be interactive. Instead of static images, users will encounter tappable buttons, task‑specific calculators, interactive charts, editable graphs, and other elements they can manipulate in real time.
The company says the primary objective is to simplify learning of intricate subjects. While not explicitly stated, the richer visual experience is also expected to make ChatGPT more approachable and broaden its user base.
During a press briefing, OpenAI staff demonstrated Intelligent UI’s capabilities, showing how the chatbot can instantly generate diagrams that clarify abstract concepts.
Aarush Selvan, a product manager at OpenAI, explained that although ChatGPT has traditionally been text‑centric, the team wants to help users “get things done” — whether planning a recipe, a trip, or learning something new. “The most helpful answers aren’t just text,” he said.
As an illustration, Selvan described a college student who asked how an airplane wing generates lift. The chatbot quickly produced several diagrams illustrating the physics of flight.
OpenAI also highlighted additional use cases, including visual recipe guides, a bicycle‑mechanics diagram, a multi‑day hiking map, and a personal savings calculator.
Users who prefer fewer visuals can customize the experience; the interface allows them to reduce visual content as desired.
The rollout is global. GPT‑6 users on the Pro, Plus, Business, and Enterprise plans receive Intelligent UI on Wednesday, while users of the free and lower‑cost Go tiers will see it on Thursday.
