Pinterest rolls out AI-driven Beauty Guides to turn pins into salon action plans

From visual inspiration to stylist jargon: how Pinterest Intelligence bridges the gap

On Tuesday, Pinterest unveiled a new tool that uses artificial intelligence to convert saved beauty pins—covering hair, nails, and related ideas—into step‑by‑step guides users can bring to a salon. The feature, called Beauty Guides, relies on the company’s visual intelligence and generative AI platform, Pinterest Intelligence, to translate pin imagery into the technical language stylists and nail artists use, such as “balayage,” “root melt,” or “almond nails,” terms that many everyday users may not know.

By embedding the guides into an existing habit—showing a photo at the salon—the tool offers a practical entry point for AI in daily routines. In addition to providing the correct terminology, the guides also supply practical planning information, including how long each part of the service typically takes and the expected price range. For example, a balayage treatment can cost several hundred dollars, a detail that users may want to know before booking.

Users activate the guides by tapping the “Get the Guide” button inside the app. Once selected, the guide lists exactly what to ask for to replicate the look, the duration of the service, the price bracket, and maintenance requirements such as how often to trim, tone, or touch up the hair or nails.

At launch, the feature is available for pins related to hairstyle, hair color, nail shape, and nail finish, giving users a clear path from inspiration to execution for a variety of beauty services.
