Interactive Website Lets Users Step Into Elizabeth Holmes’ Theranos Desk

Simulation Uses Real Trial Documents to Recreate 2016 Workspace

Extend engineer Bo Lau has built a website that transports visitors to the desk of former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes, drawing on more than a thousand emails, slides, texts, and documents disclosed during the United States v. Elizabeth Holmes criminal trial. The virtual environment mirrors 2016 technology: a MacBook Air running OS X El Capitan and an iPhone featuring a home button that requires a swipe to unlock. Users can open the simulated laptop, scroll through the phone’s contents, and even operate the Theranos Edison machine, the company’s ill‑fated device that promised to extract extensive health data from a single drop of blood. All displayed materials are authentic exhibits from the trial, offering a navigable alternative to sifting through thousands of PDF files on court websites.

Purpose Beyond Entertainment: Promotion of Documentary and Extend’s Services

While the site serves as a novel way to explore one of tech history’s most notorious cases, Lau also uses it to promote a watch party for Nathan Fielder’s upcoming documentary “You Can See Everything,” which chronicles Holmes’ story. The project further highlights Extend’s B2B SaaS capability to parse, extract, and split complex documents with unmatched accuracy—an ability that made the Holmes desk simulator possible and underscores the company’s value proposition.
