OpenAI launches GPT-6 with intelligent interface that combines text, graphics, and interactive tools
On Wednesday, 7th, OpenAI announced the launch of a new generation of its language model, GPT-6, which enables ChatGPT to provide answers in formats beyond plain text. This new feature, called Intelligent UI, includes calculators, maps, games, and other interactive elements generated during conversations.
OpenAI highlights that over 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT weekly, demonstrating the platform’s global reach.
Answers tailored to the type of question
With Intelligent UI, the answer format depends on the user’s question. A comparison can appear side by side, an explanation can include an interactive diagram, and a task can be supported by buttons, forms, or charts to facilitate execution.
Examples provided by the company include a recipe accompanied by a preparation schedule and a travel itinerary with stops organized on a map.
To study a topic, users can explore a visual explanation and modify information to observe real-time changes.
The interface is built while the answer is displayed
To deliver these experiences, OpenAI created a library of components that the model can combine. A compiler processes the interface as it is generated, allowing elements to appear progressively on the screen.
This means users don’t have to wait for the entire answer to be ready before viewing its content. The structure is designed to work on both browsers and mobile devices.
GPT-6 starts answering before completing the analysis
OpenAI trained GPT-6 to provide information while continuing to process the answer in the background. The response is delivered in parts: the system uses available knowledge at that moment and adds information as it progresses.
For questions requiring internet searches, GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% earlier on average than GPT-5.6 Instant, according to an internal OpenAI evaluation. This percentage measures the time until the answer begins and does not indicate a proportional reduction in the total time needed to complete the task.
Who receives the update and which models are used
Distribution begins on Wednesday, 7th, for paid plans (Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise), which use a version based on GPT-6 Sol. The expansion to Free and Go plans will occur on Thursday, 8th, using GPT-6 Luna as the base.
Both models have been optimized for everyday conversations. Availability in Enterprise accounts also depends on settings configured by organization administrators.
OpenAI has enhanced safety training, implementing protections against high-risk uses in areas such as cybersecurity, biology, and violence. The model has also been trained to communicate more effectively when it lacks the necessary information or tools to provide an answer.
The update applies only to the Chat tab in ChatGPT. The models used in Work and Codex experiences remain unchanged as part of this release.
Highlighted quotes
“When ChatGPT was launched, it was just a text tool—and that was very popular—but we always thought that the way you use AI should adapt to what you need,” says Aarush Selvan, product manager at OpenAI.
The executive believes that limiting interactions with AI to text was restrictive for the product. “ChatGPT can use text and still be very familiar, but in some cases, interactivity helps. This is our first step,” he says.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Intelligent UI? It is a feature that enables ChatGPT to combine text, graphics, buttons, forms, and interactive tools based on the user’s question.
Will GPT-6 be available for free? Yes. Distribution to Free and Go plans will begin on Thursday, 8th, after the initial release to paid plans.
What tools can be created during a conversation? The company mentions calculators, expense splitters, games, and interactive experiences to explain complex topics.
