What’s changing with the new plan

On Tuesday, September 29, OpenAI announced a new ChatGPT Pro plan priced at around R$2,610 per month—the highest price the company has ever offered to individual users. The subscription includes 25 times the usage of the ChatGPT Plus plan, as well as access to the Ultrafast feature, which generates tokens up to eight times faster than the standard version using GPT-6 Astra in Codex. The Ultrafast mode for GPT-6.1 Sol is still set to launch.

In addition, the company has halved the quota of the previous Pro plan, reducing it from 20 to 10 times the usage of Plus, effective October 30. The original price of this plan was approximately R$1,044.

Impact on current subscribers

Subscribers to the old plan will retain their current limits until October 29. After that date, they will receive 62,500 usage credits, valued by OpenAI at around R$13,050, valid until December 31. In the chat, the limit of messages with GPT-6 Pro will drop from 200 to 100 per week. The company also said it would not reinstate a five-hour limit and that users could consume the weekly quota at their preferred pace.

OpenAI’s rationale

Thibault Sottiaux, OpenAI’s head of products and platform, previewed the change on his X account before the official announcement. He explained that the plan would be reopened for new subscriptions, but that the usage calculation would be changed. According to the executive, even with half the quota, subscribers will be able to do more work than they did on the same plan a month ago, thanks to newer and more efficient models, such as GPT-6 Sol, launched on September 22 with API prices 50% lower than the previous generation.

Price details and comparison with competitors

OpenAI’s individual plans are now as follows:

  • Plus: around R$104 per month (reference);
  • Pro (R$522): five times the usage of Plus;
  • Pro (R$1,044): 20 times the usage of Plus (reduced to 10 times from October 30);
  • Pro (new, R$2,610): 25 times the usage of Plus.

The values were converted based on the dollar exchange rate on September 29, excluding taxes. Until then, intensive use plans from Google Gemini and Anthropic for individuals offered about 20 times the usage of the basic plan, according to The New Stack.

New exclusive features

The new Pro plan also includes dots, autonomous artificial intelligence agents announced at DevDay. These agents operate on their own computers and are not available in ChatGPT Plus.
