Instinct Extends AI Agent to Group Chats, Enabling Use Even Without an Account

Feature Launch and Use Cases

Instinct, whose AI agent is now valued at $10 billion following its most recent funding round, announced on Monday that users can add the agent to group conversations with friends. The company says the integration works even when participants have not signed up for Instinct, making it useful for travel planning, securing event tickets, managing fantasy leagues, organizing carpools, or deciding who brings what to Thanksgiving.

Competitive Landscape

The rollout positions Instinct ahead of rivals such as Meta’s Muse, which currently lacks group‑chat support, although Meta’s older AI assistant can be added to group chats on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook. Both Instinct and Muse recently added phone‑calling capabilities, and last week OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Dots—personal agents that operate within ChatGPT Spaces, a collaborative workspace for humans and Dots.

Privacy and Security Controls

In a post on X dated October 5, 2026, Instinct founder Noah Shinn explained the privacy model. A user’s personal Instinct agent must request permission before linking with the group’s shared agent. Users can designate which groups they trust and revoke that trust at any time. The group agent is isolated from personal accounts and cannot access a user’s private data. Before any information is shared or action taken, the personal agent seeks the user’s consent. If new members join a chat, any pending replies from a user’s personal agent are withheld until the user decides to release them.

Noah Shinn (@noahrshinn), founder of Instinct, posted on X on October 5, 2026: “Starting today, early access users can add Instinct to group chats. A new Instinct joins and works for the whole group. Making plans with friends usually turns into a frustrating back‑and‑forth over times and places. With Instinct in the group, you can explore options together, agree on a plan and get it done, all in one thread.”

Rollout and Access

The group‑chat feature is initially available to Instinct’s early‑access users, with a broader launch planned “soon.” Users interested in trying the new capability—or other recent additions—can ask their personal Instinct agent to place them on the early‑access list.
