DoorDash Rolls Out AI-Powered Text Ordering and Drone Delivery Pilot
Conversational AI Agent Brings Ordering to Apple Messages
DoorDash announced on Wednesday the launch of a text-to-order AI agent that integrates with Apple Messages. Users can type prompts such as
“order my usual, and the system interprets the request as a recurring Friday night order. The agent also accepts specific dish requests and local recommendations, scanning nearby restaurants to propose a cart and even sending photos of suggested items.
For group meals, the tool can accommodate mixed dietary preferences and varying quantities within a single order, streamlining coordination among multiple diners.
Drone Testing Begins in Northern California
In parallel, DoorDash will start testing delivery drones with select restaurants in Northern California, adding a new dimension to its logistics network.
The AI initiative aims to give DoorDash a competitive edge over rivals Uber Eats and Grubhub, while also aligning with the broader industry shift toward personal AI agents that handle tasks without requiring users to navigate apps or websites.
DoorDash has opened a waitlist for U.S. users who wish to try the new feature, inviting early adopters to experience the conversational ordering experience.
