White House Launches AI Chatbot to Simplify Federal Services

America.gov and Its AI Partners

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the administration will roll out America.gov, a conversational AI tool designed to guide citizens to federal programs and information. Google is collaborating on the project, contributing its Gemini model to power the service. U.S. Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia also disclosed that the government incorporated Grok into the system.

Trump described the initiative on X as a single gateway:

Instead of forcing citizens to search through the endless maze of tens of thousands of government websites and rules … you’ll now have one front door for every single question — President Donald Trump, X post

Risks and Concerns Over Chatbot Accuracy

Experts warn that large language models are not infallible and can generate false information. A recent CNN report highlighted a near‑disaster when the U.S. military, acting on an AI hallucination, prepared to launch an armed operation against a Chinese vessel it mistakenly believed was transporting nuclear weapon components. Although the mission was called off before any conflict, the incident underscores the potential danger of relying on AI for critical decisions.

For ordinary users, errors could lead to missed deadlines, denied benefits, or penalties. Citizens may depend on the chatbot for guidance on applying for food stamps, renewing visas, or filing taxes, where inaccurate advice could have serious real‑world consequences.
