YouTube Music introduces AI-powered conversational tools and personalized podcast guide

Ask Music brings natural language search to over 300 million tracks

At this year’s Made On YouTube event, YouTube announced the rollout of “Ask Music,” a conversational AI feature embedded directly in the YouTube Music app. Instead of typing song titles or artist names, users can phrase requests in everyday language, such as asking for a mix inspired by the tracks behind a favorite song or inquiring about who played bass on a particular recording. The system draws from YouTube Music’s catalog of more than 300 million songs, encompassing official releases, remixes, live performances, covers, and DJ sets. The tool can help users build custom listening queues, explore an artist’s creative influences, or dive into music history.

Your Podcast Lineup offers AI‑curated audio previews

The second launch, “Your Podcast Lineup,” addresses the overwhelming volume of podcast content. Each week the feature appears on the podcast page of the YouTube Music app and delivers a short spoken preview of hand‑picked shows, explaining why they might match the listener’s tastes. Users can then jump straight to suggested episodes. The guide is generated by AI and aims to keep listeners up‑to‑date with new releases and help them discover shows they might otherwise miss.

Industry context and competition

Spotify recently introduced a comparable AI‑driven personal podcasts feature that generates episode recommendations based on user interests. YouTube’s new tools fit within a broader strategy to embed AI across its services. Last year, YouTube Music experimented with AI‑powered music hosts that provided stories, fan trivia, and commentary tied to users’ listening sessions.

Availability

Both Ask Music and Your Podcast Lineup will be available soon to YouTube Music and YouTube Premium subscribers worldwide.
