Enveda Secures $311 Million to Push Nature-Derived AI Drugs Into Clinical Trials
Funding Boost and Valuation Leap
Biotech startup Enveda, which leverages artificial intelligence to uncover new medicines hidden in plants and microbes, announced a $311 million Series E round that values the company at $2 billion. The investment, spearheaded by Catalio Capital Management and joined by Iconiq and additional partners, represents a doubling of the valuation Enveda posted just one year earlier.
Founding Vision and Technological Approach
Founded in 2019 by Viswa Colluru—an early team member at Recursion Pharmaceuticals—Enveda pursues the premise that potent therapeutics can be extracted from natural sources rather than synthesized from scratch. The firm employs AI and complementary techniques to accelerate the discovery pipeline, aiming to bring these bio‑derived candidates to market faster.
Clinical Pipeline and Current Trials
Although no AI‑derived drug has yet received FDA approval, Enveda is part of a growing cohort of companies moving AI‑identified compounds into human studies. The company’s current roster of trials includes a candidate targeting severe skin disorders and another designed to help patients sustain weight loss after discontinuing GLP‑1 medications.
